I think you knew that I know there is a difference.
Based on many of the posts in this thread alone it is everyone else I am not sure of.

I am the director of OK2A. OK2A was the only RKBA organization supporting Open Carry at the Capitol earlier this year. I can tell you that no legislators claimed the NRA was supporting Open Carry last year becasue the NRA was no where to be found. We would have all loved for them to have joined the party, but alas, they did not - even after some legislators tried to get them invovled. If they were not going to support it, I wish they would have just stayed out of it; that would have been far better than what they did. They sent a letter to Rep. Tibbs saying that Open Carry was not their priority. Our Constitutional right is not their priority!? That statement gave Dan Sullivan and Pam Petterson (both Republican moderates) the cover they needed, along with the likes of Glen Bud Smithson (who said anyone who wants to open carry is a coward - oh, by the way, the NRA endorsed him for re-election) the cover they needed to oppose the bill. Not to mention, it allowed Brad Henry to say he was pro-Second Amendment while vetoing the bill.
"Right" and "Privilege" are used interchangeably quite often on this forum. Because of that, I was trying to avoid the obligatory reply whining "but were talking about Second Amendment RIGHTS! not PRIVILEGES!"
I think you knew that I know there is a difference.
Over the 200+ years since the Constitution and the Bill Of Rights were adopted, the courts have taken away many of our rights granted under those documents. Of course that is not and should not be acceptable to those of us who believe in a strict interpretation of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
but I was told that is why they did not support the bill.
You probably know more about the details of last year than I know, since you were involved and I was not. I will be more involved this year and and it is my understanding that the NRA will be involved also.
I don't know about any letters sent, but I believe we will see a bill that will cover open carry and I believe it will pass and will become law. I think we all need to work together to that end, the NRA and your organization, the OK2A as well as individuals and not pull in different directions.
JMHO
I just want to point out that a strict interpretation of the Constitution reads the Bill of Rights as protecting Natural Rights of Man, not granting.
It is a very important difference.
Something that is granted can always be taken away, and the interpretation that the Bill of Rights grants Privileges of United States Citizens is why we are where we are today.
ASIDE: Start a poll. Ask if the 2nd amendment grants us the right to keep and bear arms. Y or N...
Even here there will be many who respond Y.
34 other states allow open carry. It does not cause problems or create havoc.
Why are you so quick to compromise? Compromise is what got us in this mess to begin with...
How 'bout restoring the 2nd Amendment which confers our R2KBArms? Stop compromising, and stop deciding for me how I should carry my tool to protect me and my family.
