I guess the churches in the metro area have an issue if you don't plan to join?
weird

Here's the break down of our wedding costs:

  • White Horse & Carriage: $250
  • Reception location: $250
  • Food for reception: $0 - I know lots of middle-aged ladies that love cooking for weddings and funerals
  • Wedding Dress: $350 - $150 in materials, $50 to get pleating done, and $150 to drive to Houston and back for the closest shop that could do that kind of pleating (needed it rushed because of some procrastination on our part)... I know an older lady that can sew anything out of a magazine, and it was our gift... sure beat the $3000 for the real deal
  • Decorations for reception: $10 - Valentine's Day clearance at Wal-Mart
  • Decorations for wedding: $0 - lots of family friends had weddings just prior to that using the same colors (black and red)
  • Bouquet, Buttoneers, Corsages, and other Flowers: $50
  • Wedding Cakes: Her sister owns Cakes by Darlene in Newcastle
  • Venue was my parents' back yard
  • Photography: friend of ours, and a gift

So just over $900...

ETA: rings totaled about $200... $100 for mine, and her $100 engagement ring came with a matching band, so $1100 total if you include the rings

My wife and I got married on the SW side of OKC at South Lakes Park. We rented the pavillion there. It's indoors, has heat/ac, kitchen and 2 nice bathrooms. I don't know what the official capacity is but we catered in dinner to 90 people. We were on a budget and it fit the bill nicely.

We will look at this, thanks!

I bought my daughters wedding dress over the internet from China, cost $180 with shipping and it is an exact duplicate of the $4000 dress she picked out here.
The wedding was held at a little chapel in Edmond that had a reception hall attached, 200 people cost me at just over $5000 and that was after shopping around for over a year and making a lot of deals. That did not pay for the photographer, he was going to charge $2000 so we got some cameras and everyone took pictures.

I had offered them $5000 to elope and go to Vegas, Guess where they spent the honeymoon? and that cost them an extra $7500 but it is on their plastic not mine.

Congratulations and good luck

You wouldn't happen to know the name would you? Fortunately, we will be getting the cake(her Aunt makes them) and dress for free(her parents contribution) so my budget is for ceremony and reception...

Don't listen to the elope thing unless you and her want to do that. It's y'all's wedding, so do what y'all want.

We spent a total of $4000 including the dress, and rings.

IIRC: Rings were about $1600
Dress, about $600
photography about $400
We did it at our church, so it didn't cost us anything

And my wife couldn't have been happier with the results. Obviously there was some nickel and dining that made up another grand, but we came out for under 4k.

Now, an interesting tid-bit we learned on our honeymoon to the city is that you can actually reserve the state capital building for a wedding FREE OF CHARGE. I don't know if you have ever been to the capital, but its pretty nice really. Obviously you have to call ahead, and it can probably only be on a Saturday or Sunday, but hey, where else can you get marble and granite for free? The woman giving the tour said that its a tax-payer funded public building. Of course, I told the wife ill remember this next time I get married. :)

Try the State Capitol, I think it is pretty cheap. Find a judge to do the ceremony. Get friends to decorate.

EDIT:
Wow Traxxis beat me to it.

Funny ya'll mentioned this, apparently she heard the same thing today(about the capitol), should be worth looking into, at least it would feel like I'm getting some use of my tax money, right?

I have 5 acres, you can have it at my place for $3500. I'll throw in 2 kegs of PBR or Miller, and cook some burgers. I'll wear pants while cooking for an extra $500. Unless you have it in the winter, then I'll be wearing pants anyway, so that's no extra charge.

Parking is $10 on my land, free on the neighbors.

You're supposed to wear pants during a wedding?

My buddy got married last year at the Orr family farm in the moore/sw okc area, it is really nice, they shut th park down, your guests get a train ride and you get the reception room that is pretty big, it only cost him about 4,000

Here are several suggestions:

1) Don't get married
2) Old Trinity a former church venue for hire http://www.oldtrinityofpaseo.com/
3) Will Rogers Rose garden (spring is best)
4) Myriad Gardens downtown
5) Cross my Heart wedding chapel in Choctaw, OK http://icrossmyheartchapel.com/

I don't know if any of them are affordable, but they all take care of the church problem. The Old Trinity has some connection to a coworker of mine. I believe their mother owns it while they offer wedding planning services. I remember being jealous that they were being that property.
