I think it was Vincent Bugliosi, the guy who prosecuted Charles Manson, who said, "If criminals were smart, we'd never catch ANY of them." He was making the point that they always make a mistake somewhere that gets them caught, and more specifically that the problem with being a criminal is the cops can make a thousand mistakes and still eventually win, but the criminal just has to make one to lose.
