LOL, I hate brakes, although they are very effective for what they are designed to do. Double hearing protection is the norm when shooting one.
Actually had to add a brake on a .22 RF that I used in Steel Challenge as the report was too quiet for the timer to pick up.

I dislike muzzle brakes also as the ones I had would allow carbon to build up on the crown and my accuracy would suffer.
And the loud factor and the sitting in a tree on a limb factor when hunting. so much dust on tree leaves and all in your eyes if the wind is blowing your direction. Or just dirt from Prone position.

Now I did find a good use for a muzzle brake. Suppressed sub sonic loads.
If you make your own suppressor the muzzle brake can disperse a lot of the blast into the suppressor and make things a wee bit quieter.
Do not build your own until you read the laws and fill out the Form 1 if needed.
