AR question

Now that I've got a few hundred rounds through my (first) AR, I have a question.

When I was cleaning after my latest range session, I noticed some discoloration around the gas block. Is it normal for a little gas to leak out of thegas block. It wasn't much and was only noticeable because I have a SS bull barrel.

Discoloration where? GB's shouldn't leak at the barrel mating surface, but many do.

How bad is the leak? Pics?

Every one I've ever had did to some degree. The SS barrel makes it more noticeable.

The seal is metal to metal, there will be some leakage.

It's very little, extends maybe an 1/8 of an inch from the gas block in a couple places. I assumed it wasn't a big deal since there's no gasket or anything.

Tough to make a cheap gasket to sit between two mating round surfaces that seals off 13,000-26,000 psi of extremely hot fluid.

There are some graphite seals used in extreme pressure situations, but they aren't necessary on an
AR.
