Hey guys,
I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to ARs. I have a question about cartridges for a particular AR.

This is a DPMS model. It has .223 5.56 stamped on it.

Please clarify...does this mean the rifle will safely and reliably shoot either cartridge? Which cartridge is the more recommended of the two to run through it?

Thank you!

Yes.

5.56 is literally the metric designation of the 223 cartridge. Typically the 5.56 chamber is cut to shoot the SS109, and 5.56 NATO is loaded to higher pressure than SAAMI .223.
