Am I just being an ass about it or is it normal to want everyone to forget your birthday eventually?

I've always made sure I'm gone somewhere on my birthday.
If I'm in a restaurant and some sumbitch mentions its my birthday to get free stale cake, I just walk out. I'm not putting some head lice infested sombrero on for anybody.
