Yeah and you DO realize were talking about 4-500 dollar knives right? I understand the value of a good knife but I just can't imagine paying that much money for a knife.

You're not getting it. If I post a $2000+ AR or bolt gun nobody will say a word. How about a $1000 H&K? Point is that some people spend money on their weapons on this site. There will always be someone who says they can get something for cheaper but honestly..... who cares?

If you can't "imagine paying it" then great..... I think we get it. :D These are handcrafted knives and they are quite impressive.

There are definitely "working knives" out there that are equals for a lot less but these are more than a working knife, they are works of art and you pay big bucks for one off, hand crafted works of art.I would put $200 or so into a knife but not $500+.You've got to admire the craftmanship though.

I'm in the same boat but I won't scoff at someone else paying what they can afford.

If you have to ask why the need to pay the price for a Busse, then you probably don't need one.

They're not really designed for average joe use - they are designed to be truly indestructible in situations like extreme survival or military use. The problem is that most of them are in the hands of collectors now days and the price has skyrocketed.

Busse is probably the only reason I'll be going to Wannamachers this year.

There's other knives out there that make many claims, but Busse's INFI steel (God rest its soul since the university that had the grant to produce that steel lost their funding - or so I recently heard), is well worth the price - and his knives hold up against things that break pretty much every other knife out there.

Being able to afford something has nothing to do with needing it; as the various gun fanboys on this and other forums have shown.

Truth is, more gerbers and kershaws are being used in tough situations than busses or reeves.
Most Busses are in safes than anywhere else.

They are incredible knives, though. Ive come close to buying one several times.

I didn't say anything about being able to afford one - just if you have to ask "why pay the price" for one, then there's a misunderstanding as to what that price is paying for (of course, with the collectors now days, I agree the price has gone up $100 too high or more on each model). People who truly need them pay for them and understand why - collectors obviously pay whatever for them to have a pretty knife, but gerbers and kershaws won't do what Busses will (hell, even Reeves have shown themselves as coming up short in tests).

That's not to say there aren't Coyes, Kreins, Doziers, etc... that will - but those aren't too far behind Busse.

I must confess I know very little about knives beyond my Buck and SOG. However, I have a friend that makes all the big gun shows who sells knives exclusively and I have seen him sell a knife for $2500 in about 5 minutes. I sat in his booth at Wanenmacher's and saw him sell over $3000 worth of knives in 15 minutes.

Most of those sales are to collectors and the knife will never be used to even clean fingernails, much less cut rope.

For just about everything out there, someone is collecting it and willing to pay the price for that must have item that they can brag about to their buds.
