1994-1997 NAF Atsugi, Japan - VS-21/CVW5 on board CV62 USS Independence (struck AD)

I was forward deployed with Airwing 5 onboard the USS Independence, I did a WestPac, 2 RimPac cruises, Cobra Gold, Operation Southern Watch, and took part of the Third Taiwan Strait Crises...lots of lil cruises and squadron Detachments along the way.

Was the best 4 yrs of my life, I met some of the best guys I've ever known. I will never forget my 4 yrs as a Sailor.

I was an Electronic Warfare Technician(EW) which became Cryptologic Technician Technical(CTT). Got out as an E-5, not bad for only 4 years.

how about a corpsman on the Gates named Steve Goodman? He was on board around 91ish.

I was on the Gates for the 1994 cruise. We were part of the USS George Washington battle group.

You might have run into my dad with that list. He enlisted in '61 and spent time at Lemoore along with numerous WestPacs.

I was an AT, E4 when I got out, made E4 without going to A school and getting busted twice. Was pretty wild in thoes days, if I hadn't been in the NAVY would have probably ended up in prison.
