Looks like you caught some fine ol flathead bait there! I'd be putting them things back on a bigger hook and tying them to a brush pile!

That's awesome! I've seen guys catch channel cat on flyrods at the lower Illinois - which I thought a bit odd, that catfish would hit the top.
Maybe they were fishing deep, sub-surface.
If there were nine pound bluegills they'd turn your boat over. Hard to believe how strong they are for their size.
About landing fish in mossy ponds--keep the rod tip just as high as you can. That includes holding it high over your head. This works with fly rods, and even with shorter rods too. Seems to encourage fish not to burrow into the moss, which always means a lost fish and often means lost lures.
