I know our worldly travelers will have a lot of help here. I am taking the family to Chi-town for a fall break vacation. We are staying west of town and not in the lovely southside shooting gallery. What are some things to do, see and eat in Chicago.

Thanks in advance...

Navy Pier, go see the Aquarium, can't remember the name, and the zoo. Go downtown for all the different ethnic little cities and authentic restaurants.

O boy,
Definatly check out the museums and shedd aquarium, and Navy Pier. They are all in the same area of the city (by lake shore drive). Down town is expensive but fun, the magnificent mile (Michigan Ave, Water Tower mall) is a nice place to hang out if you plan on shopping. Willis Tower (formally known as The Sears Tower) has a newer observation point, they built a glass room that hangs outside the building, pretty cool if your not afraid of hieghts) Chicago has a lot of different neighborhoods, that have there strong points and weak points. If you like Mexican Food there is a place in the pilson neighborhood, its called Nueva Leon, IT IS THE BEST DAMN MEXICAN RESTAURANT IN THE FREAKIN WORLD!!!!! Try thier nachos, its located on 18th steet in Pilson, the neighboor hood is a little ruff, so be aware of your surrondings. Are you staying in the city? or the burbs? If you go into Skokie which is north of chicago, check out Gullivers really good deep dish pizza. FYI dont put ketchup on your hotdogs!!!! The german fest should be going on right now, heck there's always some type of fest going on somewhere. PM me if i can be of some help.

We took a Segway tour a couple of years ago. You get to see a lot more than on foot. Much easier than a bus tour. A little pricey, but worth it.

The place we went to was in Grant park, but a little hidden away in the parking garage. They spend about 30 minutes teaching you how to drive the Segway, then off to see the sights.

Wrigley Field is another cool tour. The Museum of Science and Industry has a captured Nazi sub on display and a whole fleet of real airplanes hanging from the ceiling. Tuesday used to be free - not sure if they still are.

Eats - Maxwell Street Polish, anyplace that serves Vienna Hot dogs and Italian Beef sandwiches.

Lou Minatti's has the best bruscetta in the world!
Ralph Lauren (RL's) has great seafood and SPECTACULAR deserts.
For steaks, you've got to go to Gibsons Steakhouse.

Avoid Bubba Gumps on the Navy pier. Overpriced and horrible food. Zoo was ok but would rather have gone to the Field museum.
Take a river tour.
