I guess she did hit the turd - they should have given her a medal and replacement bullets.
It’s come to my attention that the gun could have been taken as evidence by the police. After the case has been investigated, the gun could then be returned. The article didn’t make reference to this possibility.
The guy in Hawaii was released, so far, so good.

HONOLULU (AP) — A man who was arrested on suspicion of murder after shooting and killing a neighbor who opened fire at a Hawaii gathering was released from custody and it wasn't yet clear whether there will be any criminal charges, police said Tuesday.
Three people were killed and two others injured in a shooting at a home stemming from a dispute between neighbors on Saturday night in Waianae, a west Oahu community. The shooter was also fatally shot by a resident, who was arrested on a second-degree murder charge, police said.
Honolulu police said the 42-year-old man was released pending investigation on Sunday night. The Honolulu prosecuting attorney's office will ultimately decide if there are any charges, Police Chief Joe Logan said Tuesday.
“In Hawaii, we are a non ‘stand your ground’ state,” he said. “Even if you have a license to carry, if you're an individual that discharges a firearm that is involved in injuring another person, ... you're going to be arrested.”
The identities of those killed were not yet released by the Honolulu medical examiner's office Tuesday.
On Saturday night, a family was hosting a gathering in a carport when a 58-year-old neighbor using a front-end loader rammed cars into the carport and opened fire, police said. Three women were killed. The 42-year-old man, who lives at the home of the gathering, shot and killed the 58-year-old with a handgun, police said.

I would expect the same thing to happen here in okie land if a person is involved is a self defense shooting.
The police do not know what happened etc etc, expect to go into cuffs and in the back seat of a patrol unit and your weapon taken at the minimum.
If ruled self defense by the DAs office then I would expect your weapon to be returned.

Almost anywhere in the U.S. you will have your carry gun confiscated while the investigation is on going. That's why you don't carry a 2k+ sti/Staccato because chances are it'll put in and evidence locker and get rusted and mishandled.
If a Stocatto is used in an OIS they have a loaner program and will provide a new gun for the officer. As far as I know they don’t offer that to civilians, but I would still ask very nicely and see what they said.
Hawaii is the most anti-gun rights state in the union. I used to own a home in Kailua and had inquired about their “firearm registry” with their AG’s office. They said they have their own laws in Hawaii. Sold the home.

If you can afford a Staccato, you have other guns. The notion that they wouldn't carry the best weapon/platform for that person (whatever it is in their opinion) to defend themselves, because it might get taken away, is just silly.
