A persons participation in society (any society, including pre and post-SHTF) should be entirely dependent on that person's agreement to abide by a set of common rules put forth by that group. Anyone who can't handle the responsibility of making an agreement and signing on the dotted line (children, mentally disabled, insane) are protected from both responsibility and benefits.

If he went to prison, did his time, and agrees not to do it again then he should be free to join in. If he commits another crime the punishment set forth in that agreement (I recommend slavery as a useful punishment, as it keeps resources and labor available but still punishes wrongdoing) will take effect.

NEED MORE INFO.

I know someone on the registry. He was 21 and met a 16 yo girl at a party. It was the next day when he found out she was 16.
He would not answer her calla and did what he could to avoid her. She got mad and told Daddy, who filed charges.
So, he stays, gives the whole story, has 3 apprentices, and ANY indecretion results in a tannerite enema.

so most of you agree that he continues on with his job.... but if he messes up then you get him... he had already messed up before the crash but its ok now that he has skills you need?
what if he didn't have skills and you found out that he was a convicted child molester?

The world is a different place in post SHTF so those skills become more valuable than before you don't put an ad in the paper for a new blacksmith. I don't think anyone is saying what he did was then or is now okay. what I was saying, at least, was that his skill set has a very high value. He can keep weapons running, horses shoed, wagons repaired etc. The apprentice idea is an excellent one. No group should become dependent on one person for a skill set but in a SHTF situation, you may end up with just this one guy that can do it. his value to the group and it's ability to defend itself, get around, sew seed, haul water, dig holes - basically do anything with metal - is a very important and could mean the difference between suffering and thriving.

His skill set makes the difference.

Im with the bunch that says shoot him. We carry guns and prep for ourselves and loved ones. No reason to put a child at risk or even take the chance. Gotta do better homework before ya trust a person in ur group.

He can't stay in the group around kids. His knowledge, however useful, does not help him around the fact that he could be eyebawling the children in the group in that manner.
