I don't bring it up. IF the conversation goes in that direction, I laugh it off as weird. They say, but you garden and can.
It's relaxing and saves money. But what about when the power is out? I have a BBQ pit and my camping equipment, but that's not prepping, it's making do. But you reload. Its relaxing, I like to experiment, and it saves money. ........
I'm not a prepped, I'm a cheap bastard.

I try to do alot of this thru humor in various situations.

If the ice storms of a few years ago come up, I will go over the problems that I had.
I usually preface it with "I thought that I was prepared for a storm problem. Man, was I wrong. I learned a lot during those weeks".

Then I go on to make fun of my troubles during the power outage and how much I learned about being prepared just to be a week off of the grid.

A lot of folks will say "I never would have thought about that! Thanks, I'll have to give this a little more thought."
