Until these evil people are not spread all over by the media and they are given the recognition and are punished appropriatly nothing is going to get better! the media tends to blame everything but the sorry SOB who performed these evils and makes it more difficult for the law abiding people to protect themselves from these evils by removing all the tools used by these evil people. This kind of thing didnt happen when I was a kid as far as I know....did it? I grew up in the 70s and 80s and dont recall ever hearing about such a thing? What has changed? And there were just as many gun owners then too I believe.

Yeah, it has, just wasn't as widely discussed. There has been a school shooting almost every year since 1902, they started in the 1850s. What it surprising is that the reasons are startlingly similar.

I don't know what to even begin to think. My heart goes out to the survivors, the kids; the parents...and to the young lives taken so needlessly. Please pray to God to give the families and survivors peace, to comfort and heal those hurt, and to embrace the souls of those killed in his arms. This needless tragedy breaks this tough old Marine's heart like few other things can do. I'm crying like a baby over this.

Am I wrong for thinking they should rethink the whole school safety thing? I honestly do not believe locking yourself in a classroom & just hoping the shooter doesn't find you or gain access to the room while you wait for police to arrive & eliminate the threat is a bad plan. I would be all for teachers being encouraged to get their CCW & proper training to be more capable of protecting our children. Heck even have them certify like police officers do every so often. Its obvious officers cant always be there to stop a threat, so since we trust teachers to protect our children while they are at school why not give them the ability to stop something like this? Sometimes I wonder of people pick school for this type of thing b/c they know schools are a no firearms property so they know resistance will be little to none when they commit the crime.

I was thinking the same thing today, sitting in US History. The one entrance is a funnel in the corner of the class room. We have two windows, but giant bars make getting out slow, after you climb over the desks that block them.
I remember back in July, someone (I want to say from DHS) was offering an active shooter preparedness program. I think that'd be really helpful for schools. Could one class of thirty teenagers not stop an individual, if they had the training to do so?
It's terrible that tragedies like this happen, and people still blame guns. One carrying teacher could have stopped the monster.

I'm glad the guy is dead, but that is letting him off too light. Sick or not, these people who commit these kind of crimes need to be executed and quickly, not living for years and years in prisons or hospitals and costing the government millions of dollars in the name of humanity before we decide whats fair. I say bring back hanging for certain offences and this certainly would qualify.

For all practical purposes, it is impossible today to commit someone with serious mental problems against their will.

There are thousands and thousands of families suffering right now in silence, wondering if they will be next.

Those of you thinking about corners of hell and such, maybe try to imagine living day after day, year after year with a family member who you know quite well could shoot up mother and father and a kindergarten. And not being able to do anything about it, because for the past 30 or 40 years, we have as a society decided that no one should have to stay in a hospital psych ward unless they want to.

Unfortunately, part of mental illness means not knowing you need help.

How is it that we can not afford to put a police officer in each school for 8 hrs a day?

I am just so sick right now.

When I intervewed several private schools a few years back this was the first question that I asked and every school that I talked to had no answer for the lack of security measures.

Each of us should demand at the least that every school have at least 1 officer in it.
It is time.
How can we prioritize so many things but not our children.

If the .gov is not going to let teachers or administrators carry legally, then this is the only answer!
