The old paradigms are being replaced. New protocols call for people to run, hide, fight. Obviously 5 year olds can't fight. If you can't get them out, you have to hide them. Unfortunately, elementary school classrooms have very little in the way of hiding places. I'd have to think that reengineering new classrooms and retrofitting old classrooms with hardened and reinforced doors to keep active shooters out will become the norm.
Obviously we need to begin allowing trained and qualified school employees to carry concealed firearms is needed. Sadly, emotions run high where children are concerned and that most likely will not happen.
