Your right its not the only thing. For some though an OK DL is only thing that says they are a resident of Oklahoma. I doubt a water bill, gas bill, or something along those lines means your not a BG. I believe some states water bill, gas bill don't prove state residency anyway.
Instead of taking a pic of the license, get one of those Ancestry DNA kits and swap the inside of their cheek. Then take a thumbprint like they do when you cash checks at a bank you don't have an account at. This way you'll be able to identify them to the police if need be, but you won't have the ability to steal their identity.
Of course, with any of these methods, there will be some potential buyers that won't be interested in your paranoid protections. This will reduce the pool of buyers and likely keep you from getting as much money as you could. And if you are selling more rare firearms or stuff on the higher end like it appears you may, those aren't really the market for the felons anyway. They aren't paying premiums for collector items.

Like others have said, I’d skip the whole bill of sale and photocopy of ID and just require the firearm be transferred by an FFL holder. Offerring to pay the transfer fee could help entice the buyer.

They were left on the counter. Salesman didn’t like it, but oh well.
I went to the gun store/Range in Yukon with a friend so that he could check out a rifle I owned and fire a few rounds through it. We were asked for ID and before I could say anything, she scanned my DL. I told her I didn’t want my license scanned. She said it was required to shoot on their range. I haven’t been back there to shop or shoot since.
Um, CorpsVet, in Oklahoma you do not need a "handgun permit" to possess a handgun (much less any firearm.) The Oklahoma Handgun license is to certify that you are able to carry a handgun either concealed or openly outside of your property.
You must be able to legally own a handgun to acquire a handgun permit. I believe that CorpsVet is saying he shows his permit to prove he can own a handgun.
Perhaps that's why he does it but that implies and sets an expectation that one needs an Oklahoma Handgun license to own a handgun in the state. That is a fallicy. One can own a handgun without possessing an Oklahoma Handgun license. All the license does is certify that the holder is authorized by the state of Oklahoma to carry a handgun (either concealed or open) outside of their property.

I interpreted it as Cowcatcher said...not implying you have to have a CHL to buy a gun, but proof that if you have a CHL you're allowed to buy a gun.
Cowcatcher and adamsredlines are correct, I know one does not NEED the CHL, but IF the seller requires proof of some kind that I am allowed to possess a firearm the license serves to show that.
