When we hike in the Rockies, there is always a tail gunner that is armed along with whoever else wants to.
The tail gunner has the best position as cougars like to ambush their prey and are typically on the upper side of the trail waiting to attack.
This cat appears to be starving or sick. Its body is very thin which would account for the unnatural way it's acting.

Sick?? Probably not. It has four cubs. Ever seen a human woman with four little ones?? They look bedraggled, worn out, exhausted, acting erratically, defensive, "fangs exposed,".........sick....naw, just a mother doing her best.
