First off, is this a coyote?

It's been coming into my yard in broad daylight several times over the last few days. I've only seen one at a time, so I assume it's always the same one. If it is a coyote, are they dangerous to small kids? Once it gets warmer my 3 year old will be playing on his playground right by where this picture was taken, and the grass in the field will be much taller and easier for it to hide in.

Can I shoot a coyote on my land legally without a hunting license?

Not likely to hurt a kid although it could be possible. Yes to everything else. It would have already been dead at my house cause I don't want it messing with my dog. The picture would have been with me holding its head up and grinning.
