How close to you put your stand to a feeder? If two guys are going to hunt the same feeder how close do you put the two stands?

These stands are primiliary for muzzle and rifle not really set up for archery in mind although one is close to a deer path and would work for archery.

the feeder is in a bow about 150 x 120 yards with trees all around it. The edge of this bowl is low and in places can hold water then rises to higher ground on two sides.

my buddy was there Sunday morning and saw three doe and then two doe a little later. He said there were a lot of deer sign around the feeder with paths coming from every direction.

One other thing, the bowl is very overgrown. tall grass and a lot of 4 and 6 feet trees that provide a lot of cover.

I like to hunt well away from the feeders and on the trails they use to get to and from them.
1) It keeps you from spooking them off the feeder.
2) You often catch the deer that hit the feeder just after dark or just before daylight.

Once in a while I will hunt close enough to see the feeder, but typically only around a new moon, and ussually with a new hunter.

Don't get it, never have and never will why guys use a feeder.

If you're subsistence hunting then IMO anything goes otherwise...

Get out there and stalk the thing. Actually hunt for it and take it down.

Where's the thrill with a feeder? Where's the sense of accomplishment that comes with outwitting the hunted?

Nope just don't get it.

1) Small property. Need a way to draw them in and keep them in the area.
2) You go out stalking the place I have to hunt it will be void of deer very fast.
3) Its a blast to set up a camera and see what's coming in. My family loves looking at the pics and seeing what's out there.
4) Taking a kid out to see what goes on around the feeder is a blast.
5) Because it's legal and I can.

I love to stalk deer with a bow as much as anyone, but there are places and times for that. Many people have the misconception that feeders cause the deer to come in and do a conga line around the place and that monster bucks just sit there and say SHOOT ME SHOOT ME. Not the case.

To each his own now back to the topic!

While I'm sure you have checked the wildlife regs, it should be noted that some states have strict rules about hunting over bait and the distance your stand is away from the feeder may affect the game ranger's discretion on whether a citation is imminent. It is never a bad idea to read carefully and make appropriate inquiries to ensure compliance with game laws.

As far as I know Oklahoma is not one of those states - I know when I hunted a few years ago SW of Lawton - I had ground blinds set up 30 yards from feeders and it did not deter the deer at all - hell I missed a shot at a wall mountable buck.
