Does anyone own a vacation condo that they rent out?

We have been thinking about it for several years, but have never pulled the trigger. We are going to look at one next week "nothing fancy", but we have been thinking about buying one a lot more this year. I still don't know if I will pull the trigger this year. It seams like if you can keep it rented about 60% of the year, it would be worth it. But that comes from someone who has never done it.
Thoughts?
Good?
Bads?

I have a friend that has a beach house in Galveston that is amazing. Across the highway from the beach, like 100 yards.

Nice place, but they Photoshopped this:

to look like this:

I might be pissed if I spent a coupla grand on a week or two stay (I'm guessing here) and showed up to find out I'd be slogging through mud to get in and out of the place.

Just me, though.

My parent's have several time shares. They trade them for different locations all the time so they don't have to stay in the same places. Last year my family, my sister's family and my parents used them to go to Disney World. It's the first time I'd ever stayed in them but they were nice.

A buddies FIL has a sweet cabin out in Angel Fire that they rent out. He has said that it pays for itself, but the owner is pretty well off so it might not be the whole story. He probably wouldn't be worried even if he had to foot the note half the time; I'd be surprised if it isn't paid off anyway. I think its called Sleepy Bear Cabin.
