Rat Snake is a gerneral term for many species of constrictors. This is a Bull snake I believe. Patern matches my google image search.

Bull snakes will rise up and hiss at you to scare you off. They act *** badazz but are not dangerous.

It is not a great plains rat, it is a juvenile Elaphe obsoleta lindheimeri, aka Texas rat snake, pattern will become less distinct as it ages, much like the one Dennis posted in the other thread.. Typically the term rat snakes are from the family of Elaphe .. The bull snake is Pituophis catenifer sayi, They have a very capable hiss and can scare a man weighing in at 150-300 pounds even though it is mostly all bluff.. LOL..
