More than likely just an excuse to raise prices.
They said the same thing about coffee recently and I never saw any shortages, just prices going up.
Probably a good way to unload aging stock. Cause a little panic buying and people will flock to the stores and clean out the shelves. Look at the "use by" dates. If the dates are close, it's likely stuff that has been in the store for a while. Just don't go crazy. New stuff will show up soon.

There is a confirmed bird flu. My brother who retired recently from the USDA doing animal disease, confirmed it. It happens every year it seems. Swine flu happens also, and all those animals that test positive are destroyed. The gap is filled within a month with new egg layers or pigs.
Get over your conspiracy theories and be grateful your not being sold eggs that will kill you.
