Always liked the F-4. I grew up in Enid with the T-37s and T-38s from Vance buzzing all over the place so we pretty much got used to them but when some other aircraft flew in it caught our attention. The F-4 was one of those.

A couple of years ago I experienced an F-4 taking off at Tinker. I think it was a target tug, had an orange tail. That thing was so freaking loud. Seriously, I thought it rivaled a B-52 taking off.

Two JP4 Pratt and Whitney engines go a long way. Heck, back in my day when it was in service , the top altitude was classified. Big, heavy plane that had trouble against the NV migs, early in the war, but new tactics and weapons put a stop to that.
