Not here to discredit a person.... don't know JuniorDVC and I don't see any personal attacks. Did I have a problem with his initial statement? Yes. Didn't say this was a court of law but if someone makes a bold statement in which facts prove otherwise, I ask someone to back it up in a discussion, no matter where I am.

Could he be wrong? Sure, but your persistance in trying to 'correct' him does more damage to the public good than his statement that Glocks are better than 1911s.

So I'm damaging "public good" because I ask for a little less bias and more facts and question blanket statements? Interesting. Didn't correct him, just asked a simple question.

Since we are checking facts to discredit opinion here,I'm going to give you a rough estimate of Glock vs. 1911 numbers at any local match. If you need exact specifics, you'll have to research it yourself.

Ok so there are more glocks in a local match than 1911s.... got it.

Again,he is entitled and more than likely qualified to make blanket statements...he sees and shoots a lot of guns and I don't think his qualifications need to be called into question.

What's with putting words in my mouth? Didn't question his qualifications, they were thrown out there, more than once. Do I get to throw mine out there now?? It's a moot pissing contest as far as I'm concerned. I've shot a good number of weapons myself and have been shooting longer than he's been alive and I don't feel that I'm an expert on reliability. Point is that not one man knows it all.... This is moot to me now that I know his age and understand that type of thinking at that age.

Of course as (at least semi-) intelligent adults,we can draw our own conclusions and just because something is written on an internet board doesn't mean the author has spoken the 'gospel' and has an agenda.Read it,disagree, and move on

But apparently it's ok for you disagree publicly but not ok for me to disagree.... gotcha. I apologize for destroying the "public good" once again :wink2:

I leave you to your world. :screwy: :wink2:

I think you missed my point...

We are certainly *all* welcome to disagree publicly.

I'm not satisfied that "public good" was a good term either..."civil discourse"?
Anyway, there's a difference in stating why you disagree with someone and asking them to qualify their remarks, especially over something as silly as this.
Your posts contents and the way you chop quotes and reply come off like you are trying to argue for arguments sake.
It's entirely possible that I am wrong about this and we'll just have to chalk that up to the difference in the voice inflection of an actual conversation and the two dimensional typed word.I'm not the only one who notices it.

You are more than welcome to relate your experiences regarding the reliability of the different makes of handguns or even make blanket statements.
I'll bet you dollars to doughnuts that I won't ask you to back them up.......not about this.

Ok, it's easy to paint the picture or hint about me being a trouble maker when you don't agree with my view. Once again I'm not here to insult a person nor experiences. I'm here to disucss cliche internet born lore. I cut out quotes to address a point seperately, nothing more or less. As the thread went along more points that were made.... the more I addressed each one seperately.

Someone made a very naive statement IMHO, knowing all the facts I would expect it now but at the time I was ignorant. I then asked a rhetorical question and then there were a few jabs about 1911s and it went from there. JP, when it comes to 1911s you have time and again expressed your disbelief in reliability, in which you express a strong bias and that's great. YMMV. Usually it's a comic stab and it's disregarded. I'm not the only one that notices as you say. However, in a thread such as this it seems you have taken this as another opportunity and simply backed up the intitial statements with "we've seen problems at every match" Ok well I need a little more than that. Especially when like I said 1911s still do well in competitions in various parts of the world and makers such as Sig and H&K are well known for reliability. I really don't feel that this is a big secret either. However, if we are all here to pull statements out from the other end and let them be like the rest of the internet......then great...thanks for the clarification.

I've owned around 40-50 handguns of various makes , still own around 20 or so and I never had a problem with any of the aforementioned makes. Now maybe I'm extremely lucky by having owned almost every Sig made at one time or another and not having one jam on me except for a P229 police trade-in with worn out springs, or maybe I'm a just walking miracle in the fact that I didn't have a problem with any of the 5 H&Ks I've owned, 3 CZ 75s , or how about my Bulgy Mak to which I can't make jam no matter what kind of crappy russian ammo I am forced to use. Is my point of view and experiences a drop in the bucket so to speak? Absoluutely.... However, something tells me that I'm not alone.

Glad to hear you've had great luck with all of them.
Reliability,I think,is the utpmost priority of a self defense pistol.
You definitely need to have confidence in what you carry as well.

One question though,GMT...
When you say:
""we've seen problems at every match" Ok well I need a little more than that."

You need a little more than that to do what exactly?

Do you need that assurance before making up your mind on whether or not to ditch the 1911 and go with Glock?
:)

(Just a comical stab.)

Maybe. Wanna buy a pair of STIs and a TRP Operator? Only been dropped once. :)

I already have 4 Glocks..... however it's come to my attention that my G19s suck and they are not a good weapon because I've got real hands. So I'm ditching both.
