Pulled onions today. My 1015's will get 13"+ just from the initial fertilizer in late Jan. Only broke the soil down both sides once this year. Past years if I keep the soil broke weekly and fertilize often they get way bigger than 13". Onions do well in my soil and are super sweet. After reading about the Alisa Craig I may try a small batch next year just to see how big one will get in my soil.

In your momma’s bedroom.
Started on this project earlier this spring. Do to all the unplanned distractions I’m just now getting back to it.

Got material for 1 or 2 more to build after I get these filled up with organics.

Also still have my asparagus bed to get set and filled with appropriate PH matter.

If I remember correctly it’s 10’ x 10’. Got my asparagus plants this spring and potted them thinking I would have the bed done mid-spring. They seem to be tolerating it so far.

eta the word asparagus not sure why it disappeared

Are you just buying bagged soil to fill these, or is there a more economical way to do it?

I have a wonderful un-nutritious sand out by my pond. I use my UTV to transport it to my beds. Use it to fill the bottom 1/2 to 2/3 of the beds. Then use bagged organic.

Normally buy the generic on sale. Caught the MG on sale and bought a couple bags. Along with leftover potting soil from other potted plants.

I also buy some of that hippy pot dirt for my strawberries. They absolutely thrive in that stuff.

Generally score it real early on sale or at the end of the season on sale.

Brother in law makes all his own organics. But I don’t have the tolerance to wait on it.

It's amazing how many bags it takes to fill up raised beds!

I can't remember how many trips it took me to fill my little keyhole bed, but it was a lot. I suck at math so trying to figure out the cu/ft was out of the question so just guesstimated. Plus it didn't matter how much weed cloth and cardboard I put down, that d@mned Bermuda keeps creeping in!:censored:

I think they hold the record. Lousy growing year here. They are a long day variety but start bulbing up at the same time as the intermediate and Short day varieties here. Very short shelf life , about a month.

Better put some commercial weed barrier in the bottom
