you can always buy a glock, but though that 66 appears to be a shooter, it does have some family to it. I probably wouldn't do the trade. Buuuuuut, the g17 is the best all purpose pistol around, though it can be easily replaced with any other g17, where as that 66-1 cannot.

I don't know much about revolvers....
But I'm taking it the 66 I have is a pretty decent gun then?

Yep. When I was a kid we had S&Ws come through the house all the time. It was the 70s and dad sold a bunch of them to LEOs as he was an FFL at the time. The 66 was by far my favorite S&W. K frame, stainless, .357, adjustable sights. Pretty hard to beat.

Definitely, selling a family gun will haunt you later in life no matter how insignificant it may seem now. Trust me, I live every day of my life with the guilt of selling a gun that was given to me and I didn't appreciate at the time. It didn't seem like something I wanted at the time and it took me years to realize that gun meant much more than I could ever realize at the time. Keep the S&W...you'll be glad you did someday.

Value wise it could be a wash. But trade the best K Frame ever made (and no longer made) for a Glock you can pick up any time? No. 66-1s are keepers.

I'm one of the "not very sentimental" types when it comes to guns. I've only kept the most treasured gun from my gandpa, which happens to be an old H&R single shot 16ga with a low 4 digit serial number.

Even a semi-ratty (good lockup & timing a must) 66-1 should bring $550+, so if you're wanting a G-17 out of it, I'd say get cash on your end or extras such as night sights, holster, extra mags...
