At least for the moment I'm committed to the pre-2000 platform, despite owning 4 newer than that. As soon as I get the 2002 Chevy put back together from its "refurbishment", I'm going to thin the herd of everything with an electronic throttle body. I've had it with the computer controlled "everything in pursuit of fuel economy" lag. If I die in an accident from being T-boned or a head on collision, my wife has instructions to sue Ford because the only reason it happened is because the computer turned the damn car off while I was trying to cross or turn in front of oncoming traffic.

I must make a correction. The 96 Pickup is the 305 Vortec, I forgot about that. That was my daily driver for 14 years. I treated like it was a 350 and it never complained.

This is what you do with a 1/2 ton with a 5.0L right? (Oh, and the tires were almost bald at the time...)

4cyl 2000s Tacoma would handle that no problem. Railroad tracks would be an issue over 10mph though.

Started with an '81 5.0
'82 Bronco 6 cyl
'86 switched to GMC Suburban 350
'89 dumped the Suburban for F-250 460
'94 tried another Suburban 350
'98 E-350 5.4
'06 F-150 5.4
'14 F-150 5.0

Considered a F-350 4x4, gas for next truck, but these prices are beyond crazy

Harleys for me and you best learn how to wrench on them.
Funny you say that. Used to work with a Harley guy. His cycle broke down constantly. Not sure why. Motorcycles are so much easier overall than trucks. If you can't keep any motorcycle tip top you're gonna fail with an old truck for sure. Then again, I only had Japanese motorcycles.

Or where my screen name comes from. Montesa trials motorcycles. But it was a Honda really.

That's not one platform or engine at all! What's the one you trust the most?

All but 2 went well over 200k trouble free.
The 2 were both GM products.

My favorite, most trusted would have to be the F-250 with the 460. It was an absolute beast. Though, I completely trusted every Ford. The Suburbans left me sour.

Almost all Toyotas go 200k plus with no problems. No parts at all. The issue is after that they cost 2x to fix. I'm kinda a ford guy now. I can buy a 302 and 300 long block for the price of one 4cyl Toyota Tacoma engine.
