I try to start mine every other month and let it run with a load for at least 30 minutes.

I only use 100% gas in it (and all my other small engines) along with a dose of Stabil. Seems to work well for me.

I run my generator every couple of months or so under a light load.

Lots of other ways to lose electricity besides ice storms.
Tornadoes and straight winds have knocked my power out too.

A couple of years ago some copper thieves broke into the substation for this area to steal the copper grounding wires and caused a fire that knocked power out for most of the day and caused a million dollars in damage.
OEC guys were amazing to get power back on so quickly.:thumb:

Cranked it up today.

Started first pull.

Rotated 10 gallons into the car.

I'm noticed that I'll need to finish my non-carb compliant conversion on a few cans now that they are empty and then fill them up for winter.

Gotta dig out the instruction manual to check on oil type and change that tomorrow (maybe).

I use avgas in my small generator. It has a 5 year shelf life.
Extra gas is no ethanol with stabilizer bought after the refinery change over to the winter grade of gas. I rotate it spring and fall.
I run my diesel generator every 1-2 months with a 220 heater that puts about 60% load on it.
Diesel is easy to store. Add conditioner each year, and rotate every 2-3 years.
It will go 10+ years if things are perfect. You can send in a sample each year to know what you need to add to it.
I don't think the added expense is worth it. I just rotate it.
