Two thoughts for the masses:

1. Apparently, the number of voted needed to override the veto has been met (In theory) during the original voting-

http://newsok.com/oklahoma-governor-vetoes-open-carry-gun-measure/article/3461578#ixzz0o2qFHvtz

"The House passed the bill 74-24 and the Senate passed it 33-15. It takes a two-thirds vote in each chamber - 68 in the House and 32 in the Senate - to override the veto.

So, let's see if the voters "stick to their guns".

2. Another source for letters/ emails- your appellate judges. Request that they call or contact their reps as well. Actually all judges, since most tend to be pretty pragmatic and support other judges-

"HB 3354 also would have allowed appellate judges who have a permit to carry a concealed handgun to carry their weapon to their offices in the state Capitol and in other courtrooms across the state.

District, associate district and special judges with a handgun license already are allowed to carry their weapon in county courthouses".

Keep the pressure on, and remember to actually CALL all of your House and Senate reps tomorrow, even if you get routed to a staffer or voicemail. The antis won't be calling.

It will make a difference.

It was on the front page of a paper yesterday (don't remember which one) but it said that the legislature planned to attempt a veto override this week

It's one thing to plan, and another to act.

Remember the "Derby Amendment" that was supposed to allow open carry? It was "introduced", but never materialized. It might have been discussed, but it was never on record, other than through the media.

And there in lies the rub my friend. My opinion is that the fix was in from the get go. That's based on my rep, Richard Morrisette, voting aye on the bill. He's about as hard core a demonrat as they come. Not quite a knock down drag out socialist but he is a liberal though not really a bleeding heart one.

Most everyone in the legislature had to know that Henry would veto the bill. After all, he has been thumbing his nose at Oklahoma since the presidential primaries in 2008.

So all the political weenies that wanted to be able to say they voted for a progun bill knew they could do it with impunity knowing full well Henry would veto.

Now they can change their votes and explain it away simply by saying that overriding a gubernatorial veto is serious business and not to be taken lightly. HB3354 didn't rate an override, sorry Mr. Constituent.

I'll be very surprised if an override vote is done in either house let alone both.

A cynical view point to be true but I've been right so far in how I predicted this thing would go down.

My dad just sent this email to me.....

PEOPLE ASK, WHY I CARRY A GUN ?
NOW PAY ATTENTION AND READ THE INFORMATION BELOW.

I don't carry a gun to kill people.
I carry a gun to keep from being killed.

I don't carry a gun to scare people.
I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.

I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid.
I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world..

I don't carry a gun because I'm evil.
I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.

I don't carry a gun because I hate the government.
I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government..

I don't carry a gun because I'm angry.
I carry a gun so that I don't have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.

I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone.
I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.

I don't carry a gun because I'm a cowboy.
I carry a gun because, when I die and go to heaven, I want to be a cowboy.

I don't carry a gun to make me feel like a man.
I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.

I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate.
I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.

I don't carry a gun because I love it.
I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.

Police protection is an oxymoron.
Free citizens must protect themselves.
Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just investigate the crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess.

Personally, I carry a gun because I'm too young to die and too old to take an ass whoopin'

A couple of comments. First I am a Christian and am not coming against the whole "God given right" deal but what is your scripture reference? Second these guys are more business than religion so perhaps we should hit them with facts and stats to counter the LEO concerns promoting the benefits through previous facts. Thoughts? Typing on my iPhone during my second Peroni so I'll stop.

There is no hard and fast scripture reference, but as a Christian, we believe that governments are put in place by God. . .and that God holds certain rights for himself. The Declaration of Independence mentions this, saying we are endowed by our Creator certain unalienable (or God given, or Natural) rights. God set the government in place, but said "you can't do some things". . .like keep people from Life, Liberty, or the Pursuit of Happiness.

Saying a right is "God given" isn't so much bringing religion into play as saying "hey, these rights were here before the government."

That's my simple explanation. The issue is amazingly complex, and there are no shortage of people who will argue any number of the points I made. . .but from one Christian to another, that's how I see it.
