is it the knife that pulls up at the opening when I click that link? or is it the one on the products page that says sold out?

It is the one that pulls up on the link. Busse and kin blades are a pre-order system. After the pre-order is closed the knives are made making them semi-custom.

Im looking at the Gerber LMF II A.S.E.K. Coyote Brown with Sheath. It really impresses me. Ive had several Gerber knives and they have all been great knives...

I have a Cold Steel Master Hunter that would be about right - and a WalMart Buck fixed blade with about a 6" blade that I use for a utility knife around the house that would work pretty well. Only thing I don't like about the Buck is its short/slick handle.

Not talking smack or anything but the Gerber LMF is made out of seriously soft steel and doesn't have a full tang. Its a cool looking knife but it also has a short blade and a long handle which isn't very friendly for batoning wood.

Check out ESEE's knives (formerly RAT Cutlery). I've been becoming more and more of a fan of their knives lately and between the HEST fixed-blade, the ESEE-3, the 4, and the 5, you've pretty much got a great knife that will fit your needs with legendary customer service (lifetime no-question replacement).

ESEE's blades are made from 1095 which isn't super expensive, but I've been learning that the heat-treatment and tempering are just as important as the steel and ESEE's 1095 holds an edge pretty well and is easily field sharpened.

Several of their knives have been tested in harsh conditions and have passed with flying colors.

They are also pretty darn cheap when compared to other knives of similar quality.

if your on a budget , cold steel recon tanto is a good tough knife for 30$, i use the hell out of mine and it holds up really well, easy to sharpen that 1055 steel too.cheap enough that if you want you can regrind the blade, handle or guards, to a different shape if you see fit.
