HD shotguns?? In my past I've owned an 590A1 with 18.5" bbl, and never had an issue shooting her. After the injury to my neck, and three surgeries even with a limbsaver pad I could no longer shoot a 12ga. Recoil was just to painful. I'm a lefty so what ever I chose its going to have to have a tang safety. Naturally the 500 series of guns came to mind, an with a short LOP I got a 500Y in 20Ga. an put on the limbsaver for an extra inch of reach for a perfect 13". Recoil is sweet, and with a slip on side saddle I've got one full reload of 5 rounds. With #2 buck she's nothing to look down your nose at. She is most acurrate with the modified choke.

I also got a coach gun in 20ga, and with her recoil pad an weight is also a sweetheart to shoot. My latest addition is a Savage model 30E in .410. Everyone can laugh all they want, but at 25yds to contact she can hold her own. She has a modified choke, 26"bbl an holds 4+1, and is scary accurate. I would not want to be on the business end of her.
This is what she will do at 25yds, at room distance it would be very ugly!! Fist shot with #4 shot, and then 00, and 000 buck shot. Not that this would be my primary, but wouldn't feel underguned!!

My wife has an H&R Protector, which is an 870 clone made by Norinco. "They" say it is made with a higher carbon steel. Most of it's parts are 870 compatible. It was $150. She loves it. Looks like this:

i recently put a Hogue pistol grip on an 870 youth 20ga. With a turkey choke, it puts nasty holes in wood, even with 6s. I would suggest 4s, not buckshot if you want to minimize shooting through walls. I say that and I have mine loaded with alternating slugs and #3 buckshot. Either way, a pistol grip is fun to shoot and cheap to build once you have the shotgun.
