I have wanted to make my own as well. I have always bought from Sage's Outdoors but with copper prices driving up these little goodies, they are now $30 per 1000.

I'll be watching this thread to see what our smart guys come up with. I have a small lathe and could make my own if I knew the tolerances.

Just found this on the cast boolit site. Basic info for making .30 cal. I might give this a try after the Christmas break.

I have thought of doing this but but the cost wasnt in the books for me at the time and the cost of buying them was more affordable at the time so i bought several k's of what i was needing years back so i have many more years til i have to start resupplying.

And I also got mine from Sage's Outdoors

I got into a group buy on gas checks years ago and I will not need any more any time soon.
I did make my own from aluminum cans.

First was to make a punch to punch the round discs from the cut aluminum cans.
I sharpened a small 12 point socket with a hard stone.
Then make a steel dowel proper size .. easy enough .
Then place the disc perfectly over a hole cut in a steel plate and push the disc through it.

Aluminum cans worked fine.

I also used some Bronze door weatherstripping.
That stuff worked well also.
