USAA sometimes appears to be high but they pay dividends back and that makes the insurance more reasonable. I was with Liberty Mutual for a few years and they paid well but AAA beat them. I look for the deductibles for hail and wind and try to find an insurance company that has $2,000 or less deductible. When they talk $5,000 deductible, I get a little fractious.

I have a client that does this... he's got well over 100 with a few apt complexes. I think it makes sense BUT he *****ed up a storm when one of his burned to the ground....$175,000 loss.
$175,000 across 100+ properties? That's an average of (less than) $1750/property. Self-insuring is definitely in his favor here.
