I usually try to buy 50 to 100 rounds every other week. But I go to the range about that same time, so I shoot it. I only have a couple boxes of defense ammo, the rest is fmj. If and when the commies come or the zombie apocalypse happens, they wont really care what ammo I am shooting at them. So I figured I would stock up on whatever I can afford. I can almost buy 2 boxes of ball ammo for what jhp costs. Any advice would be appreciated.

I buy 2-4 boxes of ammo every pay period. So I guess in a way I budget it in. I like to keep at least 300 rounds of every caliber I shoot on hand.

Basically the same here 2-4 boxes of 9mm and 2-4 of .45; but I shoot a lot more rimfire .22 than anything else; still gives me trigger time and practice on basic skills. A front sight is a front sight; pretty much.

These days, I keep an eye out for ammo deals, such as the one that Cabela's had on American Eagle 55-grain 5.56, at approx. $5.25 per box. Sometimes you'll also find better deals at a gun show, such as the $140 per 420-round can of Federal M855 62-grain FMJ at the last Wanenmacher show (normally that stuff is $150-160 a can). I also try to get in on group buys; otherwise, I stocked up years ago on milsurp ammo, especially 30-06. I just wish I had been in the market for ammo when the CMP offered M2 Ball for $48 per spam can of 240 rounds :scream:
