Well we've got hummingbirds here. They've even dive bombed me once. Kids. mom and pop have more respect.
Well I set up a feeder a week ago but nothing. I hope they find it.
Saw my first one yesterday in Edmond. Put up feeder on 4/5/14. could have been sooner when I wasn't watching.
Hope none were here in Green Country for last night's blood moon and freeze or the snow flurry at noon Monday.
It was 30 degrees here last night and I saw 2 at the crack of dawn at my feeders, none the worse for wear. I think they have the ability to shut down during a cold snap. One roosted overnight in my Japanese maple last fall when the temp dropped into the 20's and he was fit as a fiddle the nest morning. I worried about the little beggar all night.
I saw one again this morning after I checked to see that the nectar was not frozen. 29 degrees.
I've had two at my feeder, for the last week. I was worried that the cold weather might have killed them ( 30 at my house this morning), but I was out working my bees a while ago, and after I got through I was sitting on the tailgate of my truck, and a ruby throat came down and hovered near me. I don't know if it was attracted to my used bee boxes or what.
Came back from a couple weeks on the road and found about 2 or 3 different birds hitting the one feeder I put out before I left. Hung a second one and sometimes get two birds at a time.
