Dry conditions and wind alone don't create fires or else my yard would have burned up. Cigarettes, arson, something else?
I get why the fires spread so far and so rapidly on windy days but what starts them in the first place?

Arcing power lines
Careless smokers are certainly one of the causes. I have seen several start due to trailer safety chains dragging pavement. Was told of a 1000 acre fire that was started by a coke bottle acting as a magnifying glass.
My guess is arcing power lines from the high winds whipping them around or careless ******* people with cigarettes, welders or grinders.
Dragging trailer chains, tires with exposed belts, past-worn brakes... They all spark
Man.
That's what I understood to be the biggest starter of fires in dry areas...semi trucks with dragging chains.
Sparks from a train brakes use to be one of the biggest cause of fires but dont if they have improved them or not but in high winds power lines slapping together in the wind cause a lot, but there are a million different reasons a fire will get started when you have the right conditions.
Lightening will cause a few fires this spring.
