Yes, yes we do need to donate if we can. I’d say while participating in conversations and providing technical assistance when we may have the answer is appreciated “it don’t keep the doors open”. It’s really no different than paying to join a gun club, hunting club or any other mortar and brick establishment where we would hang out, make friends and visit. There’s overhead associated with maintaining OSA and if we can help financially we ought. Maybe we can pass the plate and gift you a membership as I believe I saw that as an option if things are tight right now.

Until I get booted or the world ends or something, I'll be a site supporter. I pay for the two year subscription. That's literally a 30pack of Colorado Koolaid I won't drink that week, and probably won't miss.

I look at it like this:
-I can post and repost ads as much as I want as many times as I want, much to the dismay of karens and nonsupporters
-Being a paying member validates a body as a real person and shows everyone that person has some skin in the game - even the couple paying out-of-staters
-When other supporting members say something, I'll give more deference...something I don't do much for non-supporters, especially if I disagree with them
-As a supporting member, I won't just up and quit like a b*tch because I'm all kareny and low on spinal fluid...I'll rough it out to make sure my dough is managed well and generally because I like it and most people here

I'm not really sure that was an official message... it might have been. But mine expired a few months ago, and I didn't get any kind of reminder. Just noticed the supporter badge was gone one day. Some questions:

Was it actually about time for your membership to expire? (you can check under Settings/Account Upgrades)
Was there a link in the message?
Did you hover over it to see where it pointed?

It seems like in the fuzzy recesses of my memory that someone else mentioned an attempted scam like that. But maybe they are sending reminders now.
It was the same "support dev" that I got my original welcome to the team info messages from. Had to go back and look after that warning. Looks like it was a "Cyber Monday" special offer, as opposed to a subscription renewal. I do appreciate the warning though Aries. See....that's exactly why I would pay to be a supporting member. Because we care enough about a bunch of lunk-headed strangers to speak up!

I DO appreciate the community here. Always have appreciated the firearms community in general, and especially local forums. They are a connection that chitholes like faceplant can't even compare to. The traffic may be a bit slower...but so am I. Heh

I received an email telling me that I was going to jail and officers were in my neighborhood preparing to pick me up if I didn’t pay dues to OSA. (Don’t get excited, it really didn’t happen) but I was offered a discount to help OSA by giving an offering and it was from OSA because it was on my OSA messages so I contributed.
Besides, I’ve donated to a lot of other enterprises and received zip in return. On OSA I get some good tips, advice and I can basically make a fool of myself-all for a few measly dollars!

The cloud expands and contracts depending on your bandwidth, you pay a variable rate depending on resources used. 100 users doesn’t equal 10,000 users.

Software is a vauge I assume that’s monitoring software and not the Server 2012 or any web software, even if it’s shareware and free, hit a bug no support unless you want the hourly rate and trying to argue it’s a shareware bug😢

Whats the SLA say must be hourly maybe a response in 4 hours @Support Dev, there’s so many variations to contracts. I work huge systems in my day.

Now my son that actually manages the major hosting in Oklahoma could tell me more on a basic client. They must escort them onsite and they do help, in fact he trains a lot of so called self host as most of them are admins that have specific knowledge, no one knows everything or the topology as they argue its software, no it’s hardware, network, or someone from your site had too many right and hosed your system….I’ve seen it all.

Seen many 36 hour days, the worst was an SAP system connecting to a backend repository using SunJava 9. Came in for an upgrade Friday at 5 AM thought we had it transferred from Tulsa to the Chicago hosting site Sunday as it 😞 failed, left Monday at noon. Over 200 hours in two weeks, I was half crazy but very alert while about dying….. that was interesting and BS all at once. Much worse that the than even my artic deployments.

This is what he got, I assume most if not all non-supporters got it.

Hope your church or school doesn’t send out a member drive, not sure of the point. Papers like the Tulsa World do that all the time as what can be charged for advertising depends on members and site hits. Sounds like business to me🤷

I guess I don’t understand as I don’t sell multiple items monthly. I get a ton of spam and a yearly drive doesn’t bother me unless they do it ever week until you join.

You guys are complaining on something that’s FREE
