If NY style national hi cap ban happens, how will it affect NFA items?

Wonder how many New Yorkers will be moving out of state because of this? Anybody catch what the time limit is for moving their stuff out?

I would imagine not many. Apparently the legislature in NY said the reason they moved so quickly was due to overwhelming public outcry to do something. The calls that these legislators have been getting are far different than the calls the OKs legislators are getting.

“The message out there is so clear after Newtown,” said the Assembly speaker, Sheldon Silver, a Democrat from Manhattan. “To basically eradicate assault weapons from our streets in New York as quickly as possible is something the people of this state want.”

Back to the OP's topic, it will affect NFA items. If a state outlaws NFA items, which from my understanding NY did (many like silencers were already banned), then you can't possess them at all, tax stamp or not. You will have to get them out of NY completely. Thus, if you are in possession of a legally transferable full auto M16 for example, you can't just keep it with the 7-round mags, the gun itself is illegal. States are allowed to make more restrictive than federal laws.

Based on other things like vehicle emissions and such California is a better bet for the national level changes. Also on a national level I am pretty sure they would have to include some sort of grandfathering to get the votes needed to pass.

Man that's a mis-informed statement. I've been and yes there are cops all over the place. How their crime rate is what it is escapes me.

The crime rate will get worse, I'd bet a case of beer on it. The reason it will is even though there are cops everywhere there is still crime. After this passes there will be the same amount of cops, with less armed citizens.

What armed citizens in NYC? It's not like they can go in and get a concealed weapons permit just cause they want one.

Jack, with a little money and connections, New Yorkers get permits all the time. Club and bar owners, vets, docs, and pharmacists, lawyers, etc. you'd be surprised.

Still a ****** place to live IMHO, unless you were really, really wealthy.
