Gas tanks behind the seat do not thrill me but not for a safety reason.
It is a space reason.
I could use the behind the seat space for goodies that I want to keep locked in the cab when I go somewhere.
Rear mounting a fuel tank is no big deal and you can keep the filler neck in the original place also.
I did just that with my 1947 dodge truck.
You will be hard pressed today to topple an old truck in the majority of crashes now. Most will be with much smaller cars.
I do not go around worrying what will happen in a crash.
I just drive and keep awareness at a high.
