I shoot a 104 gr cast bullet sized to .308 from my 308 and propelled by .3cc of red dot powder.
Nickle size groups to 30 yards and 2" at 60 yards with plenty of knock down for cans etc.
664 fps

If that does not get her liking rifles you could bump up that red dot load to 10 gr.
And top it with some 170 gr cast bullets.
My buddies wife shoots my 30-06 with 11.5gr red dot and 170 gas checked Lee bullet all day long.
1400 fps.

She was hesitant of shooting it at first.
But after the first then second then third she asked me how many of those rounds I had made.
I can shoot 25 or more and the barrel is not even as hot as leaving it in the sun on a 70 degree day.

Too much fun.

Target choice can make a big difference in interest. Many people prefer shooting steel over paper etc... I'm sure your wife is too mature to shoot little green army men though 😄.

Often, us choosing the firearm for our significant other to be interested in can backfire too. Sometimes letting them pick out what they're interested in helps ignite that spark.

My wife still doesn't appreciate the Wilson Combat I got for her a few months ago either 😁.

Do you MacGyver the .22 barrel to 308 and 30-06 or start out with a 308 and 30-06 barrel gun and MacGyver the .22 bullets to size.

On post 30 the OP stated he "got his wife" a 308 and I just wanted to put it out there cast bullets can be fun plinkers.
Turn that "heavy" kicker into a rifle that kicks less than a .22
Options ya know.
Reloading equipment plus molds and lead and the time to load and only shoot nickel groups at 30 yds. I thought you were cheap. Keep up the MacGyver stuff its entertaining .

Yea nickle size groups at 30 yards does not sound fun but that one .3 cc load in 308 does not need to have the cases resized.
It is such a low pressure round the case retains shape after firing.
I fired a few cases over 10 times and still same dimensions.
You can reload that in the field with minimal supplies.
I think the OP has reloading equipment.

That load I invented for killing back yard critters or critters in a trap.
It will pass long ways through a possum.
