Ya'll do know that the US healthcare system is basically the worst of all modern countries don't you? I think we were ranked like number #38 in the world. But you can guarantee that we are the most expensive though. Bad crap like this happens all the time in the US. It's just that it doesn't really make the news because the people that it happens too now are poor.

I'm not at all defending Obamacare but our health care system has been flawed for quite some time.

If ours was the worst, so many people from all over the world would not be coming here for treatment and I would not have so many overseas customers. Seriously our healthcare is among the best in the world.

What is the worst is our attitude about health care. Half the people run to the doctor for every little thing and the other half do not go until it is an emergency. Then both groups want to sue the doctor when they do not hear what they want.

Why is it I always read about people going to Germany or Switzerland, or South America, Or any other country for that matter to get anything done that would be considered "cutting edge" here but over "there" it is old hat. That would be because we have politicians who know NOTHING about the meaning of the word CARE, let alone HEALTH CARE are running the show here telling doctors what they can and cannot do.

First of all, I keep hearing that argument about people coming here to have their health care procedures done but I've never actually seen any real statistics about it. My guess is that there are only a handful of rich people who come to the US for their health care. There are also a bunch of Canadians who wont come to the US because they are scared of our health care system. And there are Americans who try to use the Canadian system because they can't afford our system. My guess is all of those people are in a statistical minority. But our health care system is the best, but only for the people who have wealth. For the other 95% of the population it is not so good.

The simple truth is that we are way behind those socialist countries with their "socialized" medicine in every measurable health factor. That part doesn't bother me because I expect it. The part that bothers me is that we spend more money on our health care than all of those socialized countries only to get subpar results. Something is seriously wrong with our system.

I completely agree with you there.

Same reason I read about them coming here, including political types from Canada, UK, France, and Germany, because different doctors and hospitals are better at different things.

You think we have problems with politicians, you should see some of the crap that goes on in the UK and Canada. In fact the UK is just now moving back to letting the doctor and patient decide on treatment instead of a bunch of faceless bureaucrats.

For those interested, that is where the Death Panels thing came from. In the UK a panel decided if your treatment was cost effective, ie, if you got to live or die.

I do not know of any group keeping those stats, I wish I did because I think you would be surprised. I do know the growing trend is for people from the US and all over Europe to travel to Mexico, India, Cuba etc for cut rate medical care. Of course they get what they pay for. Sometimes good many times very, very bad.

I also know a bunch of Canadians that do come to the US for treatment because it is not available in Canada within a time frame that will do them any good. A Canadian Minister was here about a year ago because while he could get treatment for his heart condition in Canada, he could not wait the 6 months to a year.

As for that other 95% you mention, good healthcare is available if you know where to look. The big problem is our politicians do not talk about it because it would cost the government more if more people knew about it. I know a guy, 30s with several problems. He gets all his care for free including his meds and is not on any other government assistance. It is there but not talked about.

We also are not behind those countries because of our healthcare system but our attitudes toward healthcare and our lifestyles. Frankly for one, we need to lay off the bacon. (hides from incoming unfire)
