Well, given the headlines nowadays, I understand why people get upset.

What a crazy day! FYI guys the term "associate" lawyer basically means "employee (non-partner)." One of my associates picked up a Marlin Camp 9 carbine from my OKC office yesterday and brought it back. He left in the back of one of my company cars. Earlier today, I told one of my other associates to go get it and put it my trunk. I thought he would either wrap something around it or drive the car around and park next to my car and make the transfer.

We left for lunch and were just sitting down when one of my assistants called me saying there were police all over the place looking for "a guy in a brown suit with a gun." (My associate.) I pulled up my office cameras on my iPhone and saw a group of TPD and TCSO advancing down my hallway with guns ready. So, we left and headed back to the office. I called the TPD on the way back to let them know what the deal was.

We got back and talked to TSCO and TPD. The officers were nice and extremely professional. No harm, no foul. Their response was actually pretty impressive. I invited several of them to join us here.

My associate is a young kid who grew up hunting and fishing in Missouri. Just like to many of us, to him guns are no big deal. This kinda illustrates what I preach here sometimes about "the general public" not viewing guns as we do. Just as being lazy in our handling of guns can sometimes result in tragic consequences, being lazy in how we transport them can cause other people anxiety.

However, it does beg the question of 'open carry." Whomever freaked out and called the police, probably would have called on someone open carrying. Crazy, but kudos to the officers on their response and attitudes.

So, as you exercise your rights under the US Constitution and the laws of Oklahoma, simply be mindful that some people get frightened easily.

This reminds me of the one FTF I had in the parking lot of a QT one afternoon for a rifle. I put the rifle on the seat of my truck so the buyer could inspect it out of sight of passersby. He pronounced it good, then proceeded to stand next to my truck, in broad daylight, with the rifle pointing up and braced against his hip while we chit-chatted for about five minutes. I half expected someone walking by to faint, or the cops to show up, but nothing happened.
