Heck after 9/11 my algebra teacher who was in his 50's recieved these same kind of orders. He was retired military and a viet nam vet.

Haven't bothered reading the entire thread....but I'll leave this nugget.
There are something close to 1.5 Million people on active duty, even more if you add in guard and reserve. At any given time, any number of units and personnel can be spinning up for something, somewhere in the world...especially when a NATO partner is exchanging IDF with an country hostile to the U.S.
If I had a nickel for every time I was told to pack my bags in 22 years, I'd have a big ass sackfull of nickels. So a couple people posting on internet forums about phone calls from loved ones claiming to be 'packing their bags' or other mundane stuff get's a big yawn. It's hardly evidence of the ballon going up and sure as heck insn't proof or evidence of any Obama inspired October surprise.

ya know what's funny I served 6 of 8 years and spent the last 2 IRR. That was the story of my life. Be ready, wait for your call - any day now you are gonna get it...blah blah blah. I think the only calls I got were for more training, or to work on New Horizons/Panama in 07. For a while I took every word serious and as expected telling job, telling family, having everything in order - even thought the unit I was in last was about to deploy - and it took a while even after I left before they did.
Yup...nature of the business. Family members that don't understand the business are the worst rumor mongers out there.
The military runs/works off op plans. I'm sure there are more than a few op plans out there that involve various scenarios in response to an attack on a NATO partner. Ground support? Mobilize XXX units. Air Support? Mobilize XXX units. Combined support? Mobilize XXX units.
Most of the time the "Warning Order" comes well in advance of an "Execute Order" and commanders are notorious for doing what we called "Leaning Forward"....in other words packing up all their crap and telling troops to "get ready" before they've even received a Warning Order.
Leaning Forward doesn't mean a Warning Order is coming.
A Warning Order doesn't mean an Execute Order is coming.
An Execute Order doesn't mean you'll even make it to your port of embarkation before the whole damn thing gets cancelled.
Don't worry, I'm keeping tabs on the black helicopters.
Sure seemed to be a lot of flight activity today(Sunday) at Tinker for a very overcast day. Usually don't notice this much on weekends.
A unit in Oklahoma(which I will not name), was mid deactivation, had already give MILLIONS of dollars of equipment to their sister unit, and now we are ordering NEW all of the equipment we got rid of as well as greening up all capabilities.
