I remember when I was a kid (not too long ago, I'm 33), and you were walking down the street you would get onto the curb whenever a car came by. It seems these days any kids walking down the street just stay right in the damn middle, expecting you to go around them. It's pretty easy to jump on the curb real quick until the car passes, right? That's what I teach and expect of my kids. Common sense.
They just look at you like "What're you gonna do? Run me over?"
It's only because of my distaste for jail that I avoid running them over.
But...they deserve it.

In my neighborhood I simply pull over and have a polite chat.
The majority of the time the kids are polite and receptive. Kids today are really no different than in my day. Typically it is the parents failure to instill courtesy in their children. Kids just need a litle positive reinforcement and direction in a constructive manner.
I am the Father of four children ranging from a sophomore in High School and the youngest is in Kindergarten. My hope is that my children will be role models to their peers and future generations.

I wish I could go this route, but I'm already known as the grouch on block.
They would snap in my face and shake their head back and forth and I wouldn't know where to go from there...

I'm surprised at how many adults in my neighborhood, including those pushing strollers, walk in the road instead of utilizing the perfectly good and empty sidewalk 2' away. It's no wonder kids don't have the common sense to move off the street for cars, they're products of their environment and monkey see, monkey do.

Same thing here, except the kids actually move over in our neighborhood (even the skaters…) but the parents just keep swinging their happy asses free as can be right in the middle of the road when the sidewalk is desocupado.

My Momma raised me with a little positive reinforcement and direction in a constructive manner. It was a piece of old belting from an old stationary hale baler that had been shaped with a nice handle on one end. I still remember feeling reinforced and knowing what direction to go when she would show me the belting in a constructive manner.:osu

Honk. If they don't move, just run their little insignificant punk asses over ;)

Seriously though a lot of kids now days do have some serious attitude problems. But in "most cases" I don't blame the kid. Kids will always be kids. The difference between now and the then, is there is a hell is a lot of bad parenting go around.
