knife needs sharpened!

I got a microtech knife that I need sharpened. If I do it there will be no blade left when I get done. Anyone know who is good with a blade? Or know of a tool to sharpen one?? I tried the snap on sharpening tool but I don't like it.

I could ride to town on this thing!

I can give it a shaving edge and remove the minimal amount of steel. Problem is I'm in Grove. Not sure who could help you in your area.

Bench grinder, j/k. If ya were closer id hook ya up. I use several different stones, diamond rods, ceramic and steels. Just depends on the knife.

I use one of those pocket sharpeners. Works great. Smiths 2 step or a laskey works great. Like 5 bux max at Wally world.

Also bass pro does it for 5 bux. Big guy. Older. Cant remember his name. Works in knives lol.

i enjoy sharpening my knives. if you spend some time on them you can get a razor sharp edge.

i would go to steves tools or harbor freight and get the diamond sharpening stones. they have different grits.

those quick sharpeners like the snap on one you were talking about can give it an edge but its to abrupt. what you want is the blade to gradually thin into an edge.

like when the blade is new you can see and feel where the blade starts to become an edge. you want to smooth that factory edge out.

start rough and lay the blade almost flat nice smooth strokes. . you have to thin the blade first. then you move up to the finer grit stones you start to give the blade more of an angle to polish it into an edge.

you can pick up most new knives and run the blade across your hand putting no pressure on it and it will not cut you. i dont recommend you try that with any of my knives tho.

Your in BA, the Bass Pro people do a good job. I have had knives sharpened at them in several states, they always have a go to guy that knows his stuff.

The real key is dont ever let em get dull, Its also easier to just touch em up as soon as they dont shave.
