Correct, Amboyna Burl wood by Hakan Pek. He makes some of the best grips I've ever seen... they weren't cheap lol.

So i'm thinking about popping my 1911 cherry but i'm unsure what brand to stay away from and which one to lean towards. I would like to keep it under or around 1K so what would you recommend?

springfield Trp can be had around 1000 brand new if you look around. Pretty good 1911 to start out with. If you can go a little higher, a dan wesson is even better, but you will spend a bit more money.
