I just realized my last comment the companies I mentioned do not offer 80% blanks. Any one know of companies who do that we can try to get a group buy going?

Sarco has them occasionally, as well as castings in various stages of completion. Someone on weaponeer built one from such a casting: http://www.weaponeer.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=10185&PN=1

EDIT: Sarco has some castings in stock for $30. Keep in mind these require a considerable amount of machining. http://www.e-sarcoinc.com/widebody191145framecastings-3.aspx

I'd prolly rather do the 80%... just because of time involved in machining them and the additional cost to do so. Remember, we'd have to all schedule timeblocks to be there to push the button. As I said, I will be in for several. Not spouting off... seriously. Both 1911 AND AR. Maybe even an AK, though I've never been into them, or owned one.

How hard would it be to have your own custom emblem engraved on a lower? Like the Spike's Punishers and Zombies and such? I am assuming it shouldn't be too big of a deal?

What if we design lower receiver teflon molds to be sold for common recievers. These molds can be printed from any of the popular 3d printing services < $50.

Then provide instructions to mix an aramid, rayon, or fiberglass fiber reinforced resin to be poured into the molds. This would be stronger than nearly every manufacturer, and cost hardly anything.

I like the way you think...

While we're at it... let's make some home grown PMAGS too... hardest part is the spring?

If this comes about, I'm in for two AR lowers. I'd also be willing to pay a little extra to have a custom emblem and serial engraved during the process.

By chance, has anyone that said they might know a person with a mill reached out to them yet?

I am so in... whoever is setting things up, make sure to keep me in the loop, both on acquiring 80% lowers and setting up milling sessions. :D
