i have a underpowered 4 cyl tacoma, so i hear ya there. it dont like to speed. except in city limits...

tin foil helmet side note, allegedly there are cameras on top of like every street light here in town. someone was talkingabout a og and e employee who was complaining about having to replace em all the time...

To my knowledge, those little camera looking things on the top of every street light are sensors that detect the flash of emergency vehicles strobe lights and make all the lights at that intersection turn red so all cars stop making it safer for the responders to blow through the intersections on the way to a call.

I've been here since 1984, and I've never driven along I-35 without hitting a construction zone. Often times in the same areas over and over again.

In Tulsa ,the Broken Arrow Expressway has been undr contruction, repair since it was built.IIRC,I started driving it 43 years ago.Top that OKC boys!!

OKLAHOMA IS THE ROAD CONSTRUCTION CAPITOL OF THE FREE WORLD!!

No freakin' kidding!

Here in Muskogee, for about a month prior to Thanksgiving, the main interchange in town hwy62 and the Muskogee tnpk, they had all four directions NESW, down to one lane, and were never working on more than one section at a time.

And half of the turnpike between here and Tulsa is under construction. Not sure what it's all for, one mile long section I haven't ever seen any work on, just goes to one lane, speed drops to 55, and then a mile or so later goes back to 2 lanes and 75. :anyone:

Yesterday I drove from Sallisaw (Near Arkansas border) to OKC/Bass Pro via I-40. Spent more time in construction zones than I did on normal roadway. And good god do they need it...It would be best to just dig up the existing I-40 roadway and build a new one, I don't see how they could make that thing smooth. I live on a dirt road in SE OK and it is infinitely smoother than most of I-40. If I make that drive again I think i'll take the scenic route and stick to the highways. They can't possibly be any rougher than I-40.

You can mostly thank the big oil companies for the constant road construction, they push for and tell politicians asphalt is better than concrete.
Even in good conditions asphalt only lasts 5 to 7 years, where concrete can last 25 to 30 years.

My new gripe is when traveling from Okmulgee northbound to Tulsa on 75, there is a crapload of road-construction with absolutely nothing going on.

I think that since they passed the law that said you only get the double-fine when workers are present, they decided to change up their old plan (which was to put out road-construction signs 3 months before any real construction began so that local LEOs and HP could issue tickets with double-fines), to the new plan of posting signs 17 friggin miles before the location where actual construction is taking place.

Seriously - for at least 7 miles, I was looking for construction while being in a reduced-speed "construction zone" and finally found it - in Mounds (the signs were just south of Preston) and the construction zone didn't end until Glenpool.

That's absolutely stupid.

^^^This,I lived in St. Pete Fla. for 3 years and one of my first friends and myself were talking.....(me)"Man,I can't believe you don't have any pot holes here!!"
(him)"What's a pot hole?"
(me)"You know,a chug hole."
(him)?????????
(me)"It's where a chunk of asphalt cracks out of the road and leaves a hole."
(him) "Asphalt....you mean your roads are built out of asphalt?? Asphalt is for parking lots not roads!!"

I spent the next few days looking for asphalt roads in Tampa Bay and could find none.I also noticed the lack of road repair crews, the only construction being new roads built out of.......wait for it......reinforced concrete.
