Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) said Thursday morning that the National Rifle Association “made a big mistake” by opposing his gun background checks compromise legislation, saying the amendment would have gotten 70 votes without the NRA’s interference.

Manchin said he’s not worried about the possibility that the NRA, which previously gave him an ‘A’ rating, will lower that rating because of the compromise he hammered out with Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.). And then the senator, who once fired a rifle at climate change legislation in a campaign ad, took aim at the group’s tactics.

“I think they made a big mistake,” Manchin said at a breakfast hosted by The Wall Street Journal. “I hope that they are able to look at the mistake they made and look at the bill for the facts that’s in it and say, fine, we gotta let our members vote and not score the next time we come — I would love to see that happen.”

Manchin also echoed President Obama, who on Wednesday accused the NRA and other gun groups of lying about the Manchin-Toomey amendment’s effects. Manchin called their claims “ludicrous.”

“When they put the quotes they put in there — that’s not true,” he said, referring to the NRA’s claims about how the legislation would affect gun sales between family members.

“I guess (it would matter) if you’re going to sell your sister a gun on eBay,” he said. “I would check your relation with your sister before you do that, because something’s falling apart.”

I guess if you're gonna sell out you might as well go all the way.

Time to get Toomey, Manchin and others OUT. Consider sending money to the NRA, GOA.
This battle will be won when NY and CO also throw out their legislators who voted for the draconian BIlls in those states.
The war to keep our freedoms will rage on forever (eternal vigilance).

Don't get mad, get even. We have recorded votes and know who to oppose at election time.

Imagine the NRA with 10 million members the next time they try a gun grab...and there WILL be a next time.

I wanna know how in the world this fool was given an A+ rating by the nra? I dont care how they do it he shouldn't have been given that. If the nra had any brains they would drop his and every other anti gun idiots membership. I wouldn't want them to be apart of my organization when they are trying to dismantle the 2A.

Up until then he may have been doing everything right, but up until now, he didn't have a dictator such as Hussein Obama breathing down his neck.

So, he sold out for the sake of his party.

I'm sure that the gun owners in West Virginia have more hatred for him than they do the NRA.

It's just more proof that you can't trust sending democrat politicians to DC. Heck, republicans are sketchy enough, but democrats are worse. They can be the best guys in the world at a state level, but when you send them to DC the weight of the entire anti-gun movement lands right on their heads. It happens to republicans too, but they also have the weight of the pro-gun movement pushing back. DC is a liberal playground that will make most politicians move to the left.

Face it, when you are a politician you work your entire life to be liked and if you are pro-gun the media just isn't going to like you and that is a lot of pressure for most of the type of people who seek nationwide office. Being in DC also clouds your reality. That's why we have to call so often. DC is simply a different world and many lose touch with what the voters at home really want.

Yeah, it's obviously the NRA's fault that they can't see into the future to know that a politicrit whose record was deserving of an A+ rating would suddenly change. How dare they not be experts at prognostication?
